Dear Member of Bethel,

Below are three important documents that will be addressed at our January 29, 2017, noon, annual meeting. (Please click on the title of the document to read it.)

  1. Proposed amendments to the Bethel Lutheran Church Constitution—29 pages. Because the ELCA made required constitutional changes at the 2016 and 2013 ELCA Churchwide Assemblies, all congregations need to follow suit. Our President, Brian Ellsworth, was at the 2016 assembly and can speak authoritatively to the changes. Information is also available on the ELCA website. Please be advised that the changes will not affect Bethel’s ministry in any way. Since they are required by the ELCA, they become effective immediately upon vote of the congregation. You are welcome to study all 29 pages, or you are welcome to come to a Chapel Chat on Wednesday, January 17 at 7 p.m., and ask questions.
  2. Proposed amendments to the Bethel Endowment Team By-Laws—2 pages. These are minimal changes that bring our by-laws into our current practice of team membership. Also, the changes eliminate the need to bring further by-laws changes to the congregation—they will be effected at the council level.
  3. Proposed by-laws for a new Columbarium Team—3 pages. These by-laws will establish the framework for a new team that will move forward with a columbarium on the east lawn of Bethel.

By constitution, we are putting these changes in the hands of the congregation in advance of the annual meeting. If you have questions, please attend the January 17 Chapel Chat, or address questions to a council member or pastor. Thank you for helping to advance the work that we do together in the name of Christ.

Brian Ellsworth, President
Norman W. Wahl, Executive Pastor
