Lutheran World Relief has had a pilot project working with one of the poorest area in the world, Bihar India. The project has been very successful in educating the villagers in agriculture techniques and the use of tools to provide a sustainable family food supply and improved economy for the villagers. With the commitment of 11 Lutheran Churches, over a million dollars will be raised to expand the project to more than 20,000 additional villagers.
As part of our celebration of Bethel’s 150 years of service for God’s people and our community, the Church Council recommended a partnership with the Bihar project. This which was approved at a special congregation meeting on June 25th 2017.
Bethel’s Bihar Project team has been planning a kick off in January 2018. We are very excited with this opportunity for a project with an excellent track record and the partnership with Lutheran World Relief. Over $28,000 has been received in advanced contributions towards our goal of $100,000. You may wish to make an advance contribution for a 2017 tax deduction. These can be made using Bethel Connect or by check with the notation that it is for our Bihar project.
